International Women’s Day made us reflect at London Plus on pioneering women of past and present who have influenced civil society in the capital. We thought we would take the opportunity to highlight a small number of women who had, and continue to have, a marked impact. We decided to use as a frame the three “tools” of our work at London Plus through which we support and champion the sector. These are
- Data and insights – the power of data to help us understand, change and improve society
- Networks – the importance of working together to achieve change, magnifying our own influence and reach
- Voice and influence – speaking up to highlight injustices or problems and change society through this.
We picked two women in each strand – someone active in the past and someone from the present. There are both links and important differences in the women we highlight. We hope these women and their stories will encourage people to think about the role of civil society as a force for good and the importance of data, networks and voice to influence change.
We’ll be updating this page each day as we upload a new blog, so please check back!
