London Datastore resource guide

London plus and the Greater London Authority have created a new resource to help charities and civil society groups make better use of the London Datastore.

The London Datastore is a free and open data-sharing portal where anyone can access data relating to the capital, currently holding over 700 datasets.

The resources are centred around three hypothetical scenarios to help users:

  1. Understand the impact of population growth on service provision
  2. Target service provision based on need within a borough
  3. Understanding the local area and its residents better

The resources include an overview of the London Datastore and information on how to locate appropriate data sources, download data, and make use of research conducted by the GLA’s intelligence unit. They also include examples of some simple analysis using the data in excel, mapping data using the Datastore’s atlas, and exploring the Datastore ’s borough profiles.

No technical expertise is required for use of these resources. Users will need some basic knowledge of excel.

The scenarios are tailored to London’s civil society, exploring a broad range of datasets relating to social exclusion, crime, and population statistics.

If you have any questions about these resources, need any help getting through the scenarios, or have feedback on how they could be improved, please email natasha@londonplus.org.
